Caller ID spoofing

Caller ID spoofing involves changing details that appear to a recipient as the caller ID. Therefore, a call is placed using a given number but the caller ID is altered such that the recipient sees a different number. Social engineers can spoof numbers of customer care agents of different organizations, ranging from banks to the Internal Revenue Service. It is important for the attacker to have some background information about the target in order to make the call even more legit. The big question is how spoofing is done. There are a number of ways that we will cover that are effective at spoofing.
