This is another tactic used to get access to organizations that have powerful physical security controls such as smart card passes or biometrics. These security controls are effective at preventing unauthorized persons from getting entry into private premises and often the premises protected will have valuable information inside. Social engineers exploit the politeness of the people that have the rights to enter these buildings. They may appear to be desperately looking for their pass near a secured entry point and when a kind employee gets to the same entry point, they may offer to help the social engineer get through.
