6. LEAPS and Weekly Options

For those stocks and ETFs with options to trade, all have various choices of monthly options that expire on the third Friday of the specified month. The expiration dates include the current month and the following month along with a few additional months.

In addition to the monthly options, some stocks and ETFs have options with expiration dates that occur 2–3 years into the future. These options are called LEAPS, which is an acronym for Long-term Equity AnticiPation Securities. Most LEAPS expire on the third Friday in January of their designated expiration year.
