FileMaker and XML

Introduction

Starting with FileMaker Pro 6.0, FileMaker, Inc. chose to embrace Extensible Markup Language (XML) technology. FileMaker can export, import, and open files using XML. XML is also the backbone of Instant Web Publishing. But what is this XML stuff all about? What can we who use FileMaker do with it? That’s exactly what I wanted to know. So I started asking around.

In this chapter I want to tell you a little about what XML is and some ways I’ve seen it used. Then I’ll take you through an exercise to create a document using an XML export from the files we’ve already created.
