Author's Biography
Bohdan W. Oppenheim was born in 1948 in Warsaw, Poland. He has been living in the United States since 1971. His degrees include PhD (1980) from University of Southampton, U.K. in Ship Dynamics; Naval Architect's postgraduate degree (1974) from MIT; M.S. from Stevens Institute of Technology in New Jersey in Ocean Systems (1972); and B.S. (equivalent, 1970), from Warsaw Technical University in Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics (“MEL”).
He began working at Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles in 1982 as Professor of Mechanical Engineering. He became a Professor of Systems Engineering in 2004. He also held the position of Graduate Director of Mechanical Engineering during 1995–2009.
He is the Founder and Co-Chair of Lean Systems Engineering Working Group of INCOSE and leader of the Prototype team developing Lean Enablers for Systems Engineering; and the recipient of INCOSE Product of the Year Award; Shingo Award in 2010; Fulbright Award, 2011. He was also awarded Best Engineering Teacher by the Los Angeles Council of Engineers and Scientists, 2008 and $1,922,000 in externally funded grants.
