7. Master Production Scheduling

Master Production Schedule (MPS) Defined

A master production schedule (MPS) takes a business plan and other inputs from financial plans, customer demand, engineering, and supplier performance to create a comprehensive product manufacturing schedule for independent demand inventory (i.e., end items or finished goods). The MPS covers what is to be assembled or made, at what time, and with what materials, as well as the cash required during each week of a relatively short-range planning horizon.
