Sociological Mindfulness and Leadership Education

On September 10, 2013, World Bank president Jim Yong Kim and three hundred members of his staff participated in a Day of Mindfulness Meditation with Thich Nhat Hanh, the Vietnamese Zen master, author, and peace activist. The all-day event at the bank headquarters in Washington, DC, was part of a larger effort to help staff “manage and balance the stresses of daily life” brought on in part by Kim’s major initiatives for change within the bank (Kamen, 2013).
