The Legacy

A month later, Steve was at his desk, wondering what was on Jill Stockton’s mind. It’s personal, she’d said, when she asked to meet. His reverie was soon interrupted. Jill was there. No trace of her usual cheerful smile.

She took a seat. He waited for her to take the lead.

It’s your fault, she said. I was fine until you started all this talk about spirit.

And now?

It always seemed pretty straightforward. I worked hard in college. Did well in business school. My career is going well. I’m a really good finance officer.

One of the best, he said.

My marriage is great. The kids are thriving. So why am I starting to ask what’s life all about?

A wake-up call. From your soul.
