A Place to Start

A month had passed. He was back on her doorstep. Waiting again. His shoulders were slumped, his expression dour. He felt his heart pounding. Where was she? Why was he back? He knew something had pulled him, but he wasn’t sure what. Finally she was there. He felt better. She hadn’t deserted him.

She led him to her study. Motioned him to a chair.

He sat down. Groped for words that wouldn’t come.

How are you doing? she asked.

Looking for insights. Waiting for a light bulb to go on.

And?

Nothing. Darkness. More confusion. He looked down. He felt stupid.

That’s good.

He was surprised. Why good?
