From our first encounter to our production of this revised edition of Leading with Soul, our mutual journey has been more a series of serendipitous twists of fate than a simple, linear path. It began over thirty years ago when the two of us were paired to teach a course at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. We were mismatched—a Yale-schooled psychologist team-teaching with a Stanford-trained sociologist. Intellectual competition and combat prevailed in the early going, but we eventually found ways to combine our diverse perspectives and to create a multileveled perspective on organizations—the four frames that we describe in Reframing Organizations.
