Like many African nations, Mozambique has an agonizing history. In the 1990s, following a sixteen-year civil war, it gained the reputation of being the poorest and most debt-ridden country in the world.
This former Portuguese colony has made a noble and inspiring comeback, but many remnants of the war still remain.
