Digitization and Six Sigma

In 1999 the dotcoms were all the rage, and there was a general belief that small startups were in a much better position to succeed in eCommerce than large conglomerates. Blue chips were seen as too slow to change, and stuck in a traditional business paradigm. GE took the Internet very seriously, however, and began pushing web-based business, as well as internal digitization, very hard. Many businesses started putting their Quality Leaders and MBBs into eCommerce roles. Part of the rationale was that these employees tended to be the top talent in the company, and part was due to a desire to put those with a Six Sigma mindset into eCommerce.
