Most employees are less motivated by money than by how they feel about the work itself. While money attracts and retains talent, it’s the pride people take in their daily or weekly accomplishments that invariably provides the motivation that drives top-quality work. Managers who can make the majority of their people feel good about the majority of their work achieve an advantage over managers who rely on formal rewards that only apply to a select few.
