THINK BEFORE YOU ACT—ESPECIALLY BEFORE YOU OVERREACT

Leaders are more than caretakers—they also model good behavior. Those who approach situations rationally and respond to new information unemotionally are more effective, because of the confidence that develops within their team. Those around them trust them to remain calm, cool, and collected, even when faced with a crisis.

It’s much easier to have faith in a leader who remains calm in the face of chaos. The leader’s reaction sets the standard for everyone else’s reaction, which is good news when a true leader is in charge and bad news when someone who is more easily flustered is at the helm.
