7.2. The Role of the Leader

Because the law of entropy is at work in every organization, there is the potential for the creative spirit to decline with each new major increment of growth. The leader must intercept and redefine this indifference curve. The leader must find those strategic intercept points where he or she can cut through the midriff of the organization and encourage the creativity of people who are close to the action and see the need for change and innovation. The leader must cultivate, champion, and then support the new idea. The leader must provide an environment for the development and expression of the entrepreneurial spirit. The leader must empower.
