7.4. Knowing When to Go Forward and When to Pull the Plug

But what makes the difference between a good idea and a bad idea? There should be an established process of review and definition that provides a framework for this decision.

First of all, if an idea is worth doing, it's worth doing poorly to begin with. At the beginning, the leader must provide the elbow-room for improving the idea by trying and testing. It is important, however, to move the idea out of the concept stage and into the working-model stage as soon as possible. If the idea works, then it is important to further test it by providing an early exposure to the market. Is there a need? Is there a demand? Will the customer see value? Will the customer buy, and at what price?
