Training Tool 10-7: Selecting Group Leaders

When you ask participants to “discuss this in your small groups,” it is useful to have the group select a discussion or group leader. Leaders help focus the energy of the group and help create some accountability for the assigned task. It’s also a good idea to encourage the rotation of leadership among the group members to distribute participation and responsibility.

Some ideas for selecting and rotating group leaders include

  • the person with the first or last birthday in the year

  • the person with the most uncommon middle name

  • the person who had the farthest or shortest distance to travel from his or her ...
