Level 2: Participant Learning

This evaluation level gathers data on whether the participants actually learned the core competencies that the program sought to teach. Level 2 goes beyond the reaction sheet by exploring what the participant actually learned from the training program. For example: Did the participants in a training program on performance coaching actually learn the core skills, knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors that we sought to develop?

Some approaches for Level 2 evaluation include

  • quizzes that measure the learning of concepts and terms

  • case applications that require the demonstration of knowledge or skill and allow the trainer to know that the participants are learning
