A Cautionary and Hopeful Note

For all of the Stat strengths, this method won’t work without committed leadership. When Larisa Benson (2006) describes GMAP’s key principles, the first one is “leaders(s) at the top of the organization must be engaged” (p. 2). There’s a reason she starts with that principle; everything else flows from it.
That said, if you’re in the middle of an organization with leaders who aren’t committed to the Stat methodology, you’re not helpless. You can create your own Stat program. True, without senior leader involvement you may not get participation from other units. But your own unit will benefit, as will your customers and stakeholders.
