BEYOND RESPECT FOR THE INDIVIDUAL

Respect for the individual is one of the basic values that all firms aspire to today. It is good to respect people regardless of their faith, race, religion, sex or desire to play the accordion. But is it good?

The women of the village were talking beside their mud huts. Somehow the subject of respect for the individual came up. They stopped pounding the millet and turned around in shock. They talked among themselves for a while, trying to understand this new concept. They did not like it at all.

Every traditional society reacts the same way. To them, respect for the individual is a recipe for individualism, politics, strife and selfishness.
