BE POSITIVE
Late 1940 was a bad time. Britain stood on the edge of a continent which was armed and hostile. Invasion, and probable defeat, seemed imminent. There were plenty of people who were quietly hoping to do a deal with the forces of darkness. And many more felt less than confident about the future. So did Churchill commission some focus groups and echo what people were thinking to build his popularity as a new Prime Minister?
Churchill did not follow focus groups and consensus: he positively led. Most of his great speeches and phrases come from those dark days:
