COURAGE AND LEADERSHIP
Throughout history, leaders have been expected to be brave. Kings were meant to lead their troops into battle, rather than sitting in a bunker issuing commands by secure telephone. Shakespeare’s Henry V is heroic because he shares the same risks as his soldiers and is an example to all who follow him.
So what has courage got to do with leadership today? It does not take great courage to close the month-end accounts. Physical bravery does not appear on the must-have list of qualities for the CEO of your firm.
But you cannot be a good leader without courage. Both emerging and established leaders need courage.
