Be honest.

 

Honesty is one of the most important character traits fathers try to help their children develop. The father of our country, George Washington, was taught by his father to speak the truth in everything. As children, we were told that young George had to confess to his dad that he was the one who chopped down that infamous cherry tree, knowing he would suffer punishment for the act. Whether or not there is any truth to the story, it is still told to generations of schoolchildren so they will learn to tell the truth, even when they know they will get into trouble.
