CLASS ACTIVITIES (FACE TO FACE OR ONLINE)

ACTIVITY 1

Consider any major or local politicians or literary figures (such as Cleopatra or Henry V) with whom you are familiar, whether a local member of Congress in your district or international level figures such as Barack Obama, Vladimir Putin, Margaret Thatcher, George Bush, or Angela Merkel and rate their motivational skills. Discuss why you think they are good motivators.

ACTIVITY 2

Conduct an interview with a high-level manager or other person in a leadership position that you consider to be successful. Ask them how they motivate others. What is your personal definition of motivation? How do you motivate others? What types of things do you use in motivating others?

ACTIVITY 3

Do a survey of people who have changed or quit jobs and try to find out if there are any commonalities. Why did they leave? What were the motivating factors that led to the changes?
