ACTIVITY 1: Self Assessment

Take the assessments listed in the chapter (CSES, FIRO-B, Tolerance for Ambiguity, Big Five) and the 360 described below. Record your results. Think about the results and assess your strengths and weaknesses as a leader. Think about how you would answer these questions when you come to class:

  • Do you consider yourself a leader or a developing leader?
  • Which of the inventories might you consider using in the future if you were to help develop leaders?

Answer the assessments honestly, on the basis of what you really would be most likely to do. Don't try to second guess the “right” answer. The results will be most helpful to you if you are candid. For some of the inventories you may also want to imagine the leadership situations in which you might find yourself when answering the questions rather than thinking about how you might answer at home. Other questions will ask you to imagine various scenarios before answering.

    To reverse your score for the items noted by the (r), you subtract the score on that item from 6. Thus, if you chose a 2 on a reverse scored item then 6 − 2 = 4, and you should use the 4 when calculating your final result.
