Conclusion

The discussion about single-gender and single-race leadership development programs is similar to others that are taking place today: for instance, the debate about the role of traditional women's colleges or black colleges. It is thus a part of an important larger discussion of diversity.

We believe that the question of whether a person should attend such a program does not have an either-or answer; in fact, it cannot be answered in general. Certainly a single-gender or single-race program, properly conducted, can be an important aid to developing the leadership abilities of white women and of men and women of color.
