Understanding Motivation

Some managers may anticipate a leadership development program with pleasure, looking forward to the lessons they will take away and the camaraderie that comes with sharing similar experiences. Others may dread it, seeing it as a drain on important work time. Some may even resent the supervisor who suggested they attend, speculating that he or she intended the experience as a “fix-it” for poor performance. Whatever the mind-set of the prospective participant, it can affect personal motivation and ultimately have a significant bearing on the program's success.
