From Development to Appraisal

Advances in information technology are making the 360-degree-feedback process much easier to implement, especially for organization-wide assessment programs. Along with its growing ease of implementation, the process is increasingly being applied for purposes other than purely developmental assessment. Because 360 feedback arose as a tool for development, a debate has raged recently over whether the results should also be used for administrative purposes (such as to determine the participant's merit increase or readiness for promotion).
