How is it that this particular game has endured for twenty-four years? A great deal of the credit must go to the leader, Richie Zweigenhaft. It is easy to overlook Richie because he is usually the smallest player on the court. With his oversized safety goggles, headband, long shorts, high socks, and bushy beard, he looks more like a psychology professor than like a ballplayer. That's probably because he is a psychology professor—more Carl Jung than Karl Malone. It was Richie who, together with a handful of other Guilford College faculty members, started this pickup game twenty-four years ago, and it is Richie who consistently walks the talk.
