Linguistic Lemmings

Am I splitting hairs? Am I really more of a language snob than I think I am? Perhaps, but I think it is important for people in positions of expertise and leadership to be precise. Some will argue that language misuses over time become entrenched and accepted as legitimate. All it means to me is that more and more people are becoming careless with the words they use. To cite a nugget of ageless parental wisdom, “If little Jimmy jumped off a cliff, would you do it too?”

I'll make you a deal. You want to use a weed whacker on your shrubs? Go right ahead. But if you are giving a speech, conducting a meeting, or speaking with a client, remember that I “imply” that precision or a lack of it has an impact on your career every time ...
