The notion that the only constant is change is nothing new—the Greek philosopher Heraclitus wrote that “there is nothing permanent except change” more than 2,500 years ago. Now it has become a cliché, and like most clichés this one is mostly true. As this concept of transition has been ingrained in organizational psyches, leaders have become increasingly attuned to the inevitability of change and the need to react and adjust to it.
