MAN BEHIND THE CURTAIN

As the pilot waited to get everyone's attention, I looked him over. He was a short, middle-aged man. His uniform was a bit rumpled, and he was obviously uncomfortable with his impromptu public-speaking role. I have always been aware that when I fly my life is in the hands of the pilot, so I always have an image of the person flying the plane as being larger than life. I was initially under-whelmed by the presence that this pilot projected.
