Writer Alain de Botton calls travel the “midwife of thought.” I'd have to agree with him, because I recently took a business trip that gave birth to some insights into leadership.

I had scheduled an evening flight from New Orleans to my home in Greensboro, with a connection in Atlanta, thus breaking two of my own air travel rules. Namely:

1. Do not take the last flight of the day.

2. Do not connect in Atlanta.
