On the surface this 1986 movie might seem like just another David-versus-Goliath sports story, but it also has some vivid examples of leadership. You don't have to be a basketball fan to enjoy this movie, and Gene Hackman, as coach Norman Dale, gives a brilliant portrayal of a flawed but principled leader who tries, against the odds, to lead change.

The film is loosely based on the improbable but true story of the 1954 high school basketball team from tiny Milan, Indiana. The team, from a school with only seventy-five boys, won the state championship.
