BURIED TREASURE

There are lots of movies out there that are not only entertaining but also teach excellent leadership lessons. Consider this short list: Erin Brockovich (persistence, coalition building), Wall Street (the dark side of leadership, power), The Hunt for Red October (strategy, authority, control), Glory (team building, diversity, motivation), and Dead Poets Society (empowerment, mentoring).

The next time you watch a movie, try to determine whether it says anything about leadership, and if so, what. I think that almost all movies, even sophomoric comedies, contain analogies to organizational leadership. Granted, if you think art house films with subtitles are the only movies intellectually worthy of watching, you'll probably scoff ...
