It's difficult for leaders to be effective if they don't take the time to examine their sense of purpose and the ways it has been defined, influenced, informed, and refined by their experiences. Just as important as periodically reassessing one's sense of purpose, however, is working to develop and strengthen it. It might seem as though a sense of purpose is something that a person either does or does not have, not something that can be developed. In fact, everyone lives by reason, intent, and drive, and individuals can nurture and grow their sense of purpose by asking themselves questions, articulating their ideals, and learning how to learn.
