Meaning, then, is a journey of discovery that begins and ends with a connection to the inner self. The self, however, is not acting in isolation. It is through interaction with the world that an individual gains an opportunity to reflect upon his or her actions and create greater connection to the self. So the creation of meaning is an interactive process that is different for each person in each situation of life. It is no wonder that meaning itself is so difficult to define.
What can be done, then, to create meaning, particularly where leadership is concerned? Here are a few thoughts:
