In Iraq Dyer is the judge advocate (military jargon for lawyer) for a fifteen-person engineering design unit in Iraq. As Dyer explains, his team of reservists provides expertise that isn't available from active-duty combat engineering units, which are geared toward tasks such as breaching obstacles and blowing up bridges. Dyer's engineering unit is the type that is needed most in Iraq right now, consisting of managers of large-scale construction projects, architects, and power-distribution experts.
