UNWANTED BAGGAGE

Several years ago my wife and I were visiting relatives in Indiana. All the nearby hotels were booked up, so we took a room at a bed and breakfast. The rambling Victorian house seemed like a typical B&B except for one thing: there were several senior citizens who appeared to be just hanging out. These weren't the normal “we're on a tour of Civil War battlefields and local quilt shops” types, who can usually be identified by their fanny packs, track suits, and visors. These “guests” seemed more entrenched. Later, the B&B owner explained to me that these folks were his parents and his wife's parents, who lived with them. One of the reasons he and his wife had bought the B&B, he said, was so they could take care of their parents. ...
