BANKING ON IT

After the couple returned to their Indiana hometown, Fred went back to work at the factory and Margaret found a job as assistant to an attorney whose office was on the second floor of the local bank building. On her way to work one morning she passed a bank officer who asked, “What's Fred doing these days?” She explained that he had been temporarily laid off from the factory. The banker told her to ask Fred to come to see him, and Fred did. After an interview, he was offered a job as an apprentice teller. With his background in farming and manual labor, Fred thought long and hard about taking an office job. He couldn't imagine being cooped up inside all day, and the thought of handling other people's money scared him to death. But ...
