The Rest of the Leadership Story

I love a good rags-to-riches story. So do Hollywood and People magazine, but I don't think they take the stories far enough. Anyone can win the lottery, and I have no interest in dumb luck. For my mindless fulfillment I go straight to cable TV's VH1. It has a show called Behind the Music, which contains two elements that fascinate me—rock music history and human folly. Each story features a performer or group, and the stories tend to stick to a formula that works like this. Small-town boy or girl forms a band. Band gets discovered.
