A primary focus of the Leadership Index is to gain an understanding of the top leadership challenges currently faced by managers. The surveys over the four years show a number of similarities but also some differences in the most significant challenges.

Building your team to achieve outcomes, creating/following through on organization change, and being flexible in responding to new ideas and change have been placed among the top five challenges for each of the four years of the survey (see the table on page 16, “The Top Five Leadership Challenges, 2002–2005”).
