A more pointed challenge to the paradigm of leadership as management comes from another consultant and management expert, Margaret Wheatley, who confesses to having been a supporter of the dominant paradigm in the past. In the revised edition of her book Leadership and the New Science: Discovering Order in a Chaotic World (Berrett-Koehler, 2001), Wheatley argues that recent discoveries support the primacy of a holistic approach to management that emphasizes relationships with people and a widely diffused participatory system.
