For the Greensboro Rotary Club, the focus on local youths is a community service project and part of the Four Avenues of Service that are Rotary's philosophical cornerstones and the foundation on which club activity is based. “A key concern we had was that high school students were unwilling to stick their necks out, to take on leadership positions,” says Stuart Fountain, the Rotary codirector of the RYLP for the program's first five years. “Young people were not even aware that taking a leadership role was something they could do.” By making an investment in local students, the Greensboro Rotary wants to cultivate youths’ interest in leadership and their ability to take on leadership roles later in life; it is hoped that they ...
