The newest generation of workers, those born between 1978 and 2001, wasn't included in the survey. This fourth generation entering the workforce has been called Generation Y (because it follows Generation X) or, as a play on words, Generation Why?—a reference to its members’ apparent strong desire for choice and comfort. Generation Y is also sometimes called the Net Generation (referring to the exponentially greater role of the Internet and technology in the lives of these new workers) and the Echo Boom Generation (because most of the parents of this generation are Baby Boomers).
