A BETTER FUTURE

Shetty is reluctant to be satisfied with what he has achieved because he believes there is much more to be done. As it is with many social entrepreneurs, optimism is critical to Shetty's success. A sign in his office reads, “Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossible before they were done.” Big projects costing millions of dollars don't faze him. “My plans have never suffered for lack of funds,” he says, adding that the required money somehow materializes in response to the work. His richer patients have donated hundreds of thousands of dollars in appreciation, and corporate and religious organizations have offered millions more in grants, loans, and free services.
