Leadership is very much in the eye of the beholder. People have a sense of what and who a good leader is. If your social identity doesn't match those expectations, it makes leadership more difficult for you. The more closely you match a person's prototype of an ideal leader, the easier it is for that person to accept you as a leader. Consequently, it is very important that you understand your own social identity and its impact on the way you are seen by others.
