The unique elements in the public school setting in the United States demand a customized approach to the development of educational leaders. These elements include a cadre of leaders who have pursued a career in education because of their commitment to serving the interest of students and a host of sociopolitical factors that create a high-stakes, multiple-stakeholder, public accountability leadership context.
