Ownership is the ability to take blame/responsibility for our negative actions, feelings, and thoughts. It is one of the most difficult things to do for most of us. This is because it affects our self-esteem, is painful, and is often so fatiguing it feels like the “wind has literally been knocked out of us.” It is in our innate nature to self-protect, and it is also in our nature to fend for ourselves in a world that often requires competition and survival of the fittest.

When we take ownership, we have to view ourselves as possibly weak, fallible, and therefore vulnerable. When we are vulnerable, we can be susceptible to being taken advantage of. ...
