Photoshop has a bunch of layer effects (known as layer styles), such as shadows, glows, bevels, and strokes, that can be instantly applied to any layer. That, in and of itself, is a great time saver. However, layer styles take it a step further in two ways: 1) You can always edit them. They’re live effects, so you can add a 4-pixel white stroke around a layer and later decide to go back and make it a 2-pixel stroke instead. 2) You can save them.
